New Michigan agency to help veterans seek benefits

The agency is designed to help military veterans connect with and apply for benefits such as health care, education and employment assistance. Snyder and others say Michigan needs to do a better job of connecting veterans to the services they are entitled to. Michigan has the nation's 11th-highest population of veterans and ranks last in federal money spent per person on services provided through the U.S. Veterans Administration. Those services include medical treatment, pensions and employment assistance.

Here is the new contact information for the agency:

• The address is 222 Washington Square North, Lansing MI, 48933. But mail for the agency should be sent to the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency, PO Box 30104, Lansing, MI 48909.

• The new primary phone number for the agency will be (517) 284-5298.

• The Michigan Veterans Trust Fund will be moving to the same address as the new agency. The primary phone number will be (517) 284-5299.

Department Overview The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency has responsibilities for the administration and operation of the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund, Michigan Veterans Homeowners Assistance Program, the Michigan Homes for Veterans, constituent service or referral and the state's grant to chartered veterans' service organizations and the Michigan Association of County Veterans Counselors.

Although each state is unique,

with its own traditions, programs, and resources, we are united by our common goal to make a difference in the lives of our veterans.
