U.S. Passport Applications Program
Changes effective February 1, 2008
Effective Feb 1, 2008, a customer may apply early for the passport card. The passport card can only be used for land and sea travel between the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean. It can not be used for air travel or any other international destination. A Passport will be needed.

Detroit Fire Department offers FREE Smoke Detector Program
Each year, several Detroit residents, particularly children and senior citizens, die in house fires. In many instances, those deaths could have been prevented if the home had been equipped with a properly installed and working smoke detector.
As part of its continuing home fire safety education program, the Detroit Fire Department will install a limited number of Free Smoke Detectors for seniors and or low-income families with children.

SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM
WHAT IS THE SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM (SFSP)?
The SFSP is a Child Nutrition Program that feeds children during school vacations. It uses meal patterns similar to those used in other federal child nutrition programs. The SFSP Income Eligibility Standards are the same as those used for reduced‑price eligibility in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs. The SFSP is operated at the local level by program sponsors and is administered in Michigan by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), Grants Coordination and School Support.

BenefitsCheckUp is a no cost, comprehensive Web-based service that helps to match older adults who have limited income and resources with more than 2,000 federal, state and local senior benefits programs where they can get help with the cost of health care, prescriptions drugs, food, housing, utility bills, in-home services and many other needs.
BenefitsCheckUp also helps seniors locate programs that offer assistance with education, employment, tax relief, transportation, and volunteer services. In addition, local and state agencies nationwide provide screenings and support for seniors who use BenefitsCheckUp.
